While working as a Train Controller at the Central Interlocking in Zurich in 2011, I was assigned a project called Info Tool Zurich. The software was developed in PHP and jQuery. Its main purpose was to inform everyone working at Zurich Main Station—both with and on trains—about changes to the yearly schedule occurring that day.

Users had access to a list of active changes, which could be marked with different statuses such as unread, read, highlighted, track-data-only changes, or canceled entries. Additionally, when a train driver was ready in the shunting yard, they could access the system via smartphone and notify the train controller directly. This reduced phone calls to the Central Interlocking by nearly 50%.

Thanks to live-data search functionality, we were also able to reduce the number of printed work instructions by about 250,000 pages per year.

In 2013, the project received an internal award. Unfortunately, the application is no longer in service, and since it was an internal tool, I cannot share any public links.
